Karen Ashton, also known as 'the Aromatherapy Geek', has been a qualified aromatherapist since 2003. In 2007, she expanded her qualifications by becoming a further education teacher and founded her own training school, Holistic Therapies Training Academy. Aromatherapy is her absolute passion, and over the years, Karen has become an author, podcaster, blogger, and vlogger.
Karen Ashton (formerly Kilminster) is the visionary founder of Holistic Therapies Training Academy. Inspired by her own training experiences and keen observations of her students' needs, she built the business from the ground up. With previous experience as a business owner, office manager, and qualified accountant, she utilised these skills to establish the academy. Karen meticulously crafts all training materials, ensuring they meet industry standards, whether for online courses, accredited programs, or VTCT qualifications. Each course offers comprehensive, high-quality content, maintaining consistent excellence across all formats.
Karen is known to her friends, students, family, and tutors for her light-hearted nature and passion for teaching and sharing the knowledge she has gained over the years.
Originally based in Swindon, Wiltshire, Holistic Therapies Training Academy has been featured in the Swindon Advertiser, and Karen has shared her insights on Swindon Radio. In 2011, seeking a better work-life balance for her family, she relocated with her two sons to her hometown of Bideford, Devon. This move marked a new chapter, with the business flourishing in North Devon. What began as a single mother's effort to create a better life for her children has grown into a thriving academy. Karen's dedication allowed her to balance work with family time, often taking school holidays off to be with her boys.
Now residing in North Devon with her husband, two grown-up sons, and three cats, Karen continues to mentor aspiring therapists, guiding them to achieve their own work-life balance and business success. Her journey from financial independence to becoming a mentor exemplifies her drive and determination. As the academy thrives, Karen now focuses on restoring her own work-life balance, embodying the adage, "From small acorns grow big oaks."
Her expertise and dedication have been acknowledged in the media, with features in the Swindon Advertiser and interviews on Swindon Radio, highlighting her contributions to the therapy and training industry.
Karen is passionate about sharing her knowledge with all those who love aromatherapy, whether for home use or in their business and treatments. Those in her care are in safe hands, benefiting from her extensive experience.

I would absolutely recommend training by Karen and Jason at Holistic Therapies Training Academy... The Body Wrap course and Aromatherapy blending course were brilliant. The course theory, background and practical learning was above and beyond what I was expecting. Moreover, the passionate people Karen and Jason are about their field enables you to learn a lot more (on top of the course info) and in great detail information which will help you, which is invaluable and I am very grateful for! It is a supportive, friendly, professional environment, and feels like a family - I look forward to completing my Complementary therapies level 3 with them.....and other courses in the future !!!!

Over the last few years I have had the pleasure of attending some or the training's on offer at Holistic Therapies Training Academy and gaining qualifications. Karen offers a number of courses based in various alternative therapies and beauty. She draws on her experiences in these fields to back up her training or has a number of tutors in the field to compliment her .I have a busy life and found the courses she has to offer were easily tailored to fit to my needs that where possible. Karen obviously enjoys teaching and is good at it, and this comes through when you meet her. I would recommend Karen and her center to anyone.
